• How to Read Your Water Bill
Account Number is unique to each customer and Service ID (SID) is unique to each property. Thus, one customer typically has one account number but may have several SID numbers (one for each property serviced by the District). Period Ending is the date the meter was read. The Billing Date is the date the bills were mailed and the date from which the due date is calculated. Bills are payable upon receipt and become past due on the 31st day after the billing date. Previous Read is your meter reading for your prior billing. Current Reading is the reading on the current bill. Consumption is the total cubic feet used since your previous read. Amount Due is the charge on this bill. Past Due Amount is any amount previously unpaid (at the time the current bill was issued). Total Amount Due is the current bill plus any past due amounts. Due Date is the last date to pay a bill without incurring late fees. Late Charge After Due Date is the additional charge for payments made after the due date. Total Amount After Due Date includes the current charges, any past due balance and late charges. Bills are perforated so you may return the right-side portion of your bill with payment. PLEASE, DO NOT USE STAPLES ON CHECKS OR BILL STUBS AS THIS MAKES PROCESSING VERY DIFFICULT.
• Terms & Conditions
The District’s Terms and Conditions (effective June 1, 2012) prepared by the Newport Water District and approved by the Maine Public Utilities Commission, represent a contract between the customer and the District. Failure to comply with the rules and regulations, or requirements referenced in the Terms and Conditions, may be cause for refusal or disconnection of your water service.
• Cross Connection
The District’s Cross Connection Control Program is designed to maintain the safety and potability of the water in the District’s system by preventing the introduction of any foreign liquids, gases, and substances other than water from intended sources, and to provide protection from actual or potential cross-connection. This program derives its authority from 10-144A M.R.S.A. Chapter 226 as authorized by 22 M.R.S.A. Chapter 601, Subchapter II §2612(5), from the State of Maine internal plumbing code and Rules and Regulations by the Newport Water District, approved by the Maine Public Utilities Commission. A complete copy of the Districts program is available for review at the District office during normal business hours.
